During the past ten years, the social problems caused by the global economic development have become more prominent, and has become an important factor to affect corporate performance and investor returns. Therefore, some international professional investment institutions and analysts start to pay attention to the social responsibility impacts on investment. After several decades of development, the Social Responsibility Investment (SRI) concepts have become a new trend in the investment field.

In China, major environmental pollution and Occupational health and safety accidents have frequently occurred in listed companies in recent years. Meanwhile some IPO applied companies also have potential risks of environmental, social and sustainable development. For example, the controversy surrounding IPO applicant “Guizhentang” led to heated discussion to what kind of company can be listed, and whether social responsibility factors should be considered during the investment decisions.

So, how to define Social Investment?

What can Social Investment brings to investors and the invested companies?

How to measure social responsibility factors when making investment decisions? Is there any criteria and calculation method?

With such questions, Security Times Chinese Listed Companies CSR Research Centre and SynTao co-sponsor the China Social Investment Forum (Referred to China SIF), inviting foreign and domestic experts to introduce the forefront and valuable SRI experience in order to promote SRI development of in China.

On February 28 2012, in the launch event of China SIF, we are honoured to invite Ms. Tessa Tennant, Founder Chairman of the Asian Environment and Responsible Investment Association, and Mr. Neil McIndoe, Environmental Finance Director of Trucost as our guests. They will share their SRI experience in other countries and discuss the hot issue about the IPO applicant “Guizhentang” from the perspective of SRI.
