26th China SIF: Dialogue between Swedish SRI Consultancy and Chinese peers on SRI practices

On May 11, 2015, China Social Investment Forum (China SIF) held its 26th event – the roundtable discussion with Ethix SRI Advisors in Tsinghua University. With the theme “the Value of the UN Global Compact”, the participants of the roundtable expressed their own experiences on how to manage opportunities and risks on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and investor’s viewpoint on CSR performance.

 

Ethix SRI Advisors, an analysis-based consulting firm from Sweden, has rich experience and thorough knowledge of how different approaches to sustainability can be implemented in asset management. Ms. Reinhilde Weidacher, Head of Research, and Mr. Damien Fruchart, Engagement Manager, introduced the current state of responsible investment in Europe and how to include UN Global Compact in building responsible investment strategy and environmental, social and governance (ESG) analysis. They also shared their opinions on the implement of UN Global Compact in China and the opportunities and challenges that Chinese companies were facing in their CSR practices.

 

Dr. Guo Peiyuan, co-founder of China SIF and the general manager of SynTao, reviewed the development of responsible investment in China and China SIF’s efforts on promoting responsible investment in China’s capital market for the last three years. Dr. Guo also introduced the trend of green finance in China, emphasizing that responsible investment and green finance will prosper in the next few years. 

 

About 40 guests including companies, institutional investors, social organizations, consultancies, academic experts and media participated the roundtable. The guests asked questions on responsible investment practices in Europe and China, and shared their own experiences on how to improve socially responsible investment (SRI) in China.
